On Saturday 2 June 2012 we held our biggest and best event yet! 200 locals came along to our big street party in Newport Road to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We all had a stunning afternoon – and many thanks to Andy and the staff of the Moderation, New Hope for use of their furniture and facilities, the Standard Tandoori for bringing food, the volunteers who helped set the party up and Mel, Nicola and Sarah of Newport Road for their enthusiasm and help in organising the event.

On 4 November 2011 we had a fascinating visit to a long-established local business. Cox & Wyman’s building is over 100 years old, and they have been printing books there for most of that time. These days they only print paperbacks, and their output is around a million books per week (that’s about two books every second!)

Our fifth tidy-up day – and a great success again! Many thanks to everyone that helped us make the event a success, and to Festival Republic for their sponsorship of the skip.

 

In February 2011 Reading organised a tree planting campaign, part of the national ‘Trees for Cities’ initiative. Bell Tower Community Association members joined in.

The big skip’s back in the school playground again – and it didn’t take long to fill! As always, many thanks to Festival Republic for their sponsorship and to everyone who took part.

On Sunday 18 July 2010 we held a Big Lunch – an opportunity to meet the neighbours for a picnic in the school playground. The lunch was part of the Eden Project’s national Big Lunch event, which had nearly a million participants in 2009, its first year.
